Feather River salmon fishing.

The salmon fishing on the Feather River has been very good this month in and around the Outlet Hole near Oroville Ca.  Limit style fishing is happening now for most anglers drifting roe/puffball combos or back trolling sardine wrapped kwikfish style plugs.  More salmon are coming in over 20 pounds this week with several salmon weighing in over 30 pounds.  New king salmon appear to be showing everyday in the upper stretch of the Feather River.  The great fishing should continue through mid October.  Anglers fishing the low flow section are catching steelhead daily 2 to 5 pounds drifting small glo bug egg patterns.

Sacramento River salmon fishing.

There has been more salmon arriving up the Sacramento River from Woodson Bridge in Corning, Ca. upriver towards the Barge Hole in Anderson Balls Ferry.  The canyon below the Barge Hole has been fishing better with king salmon 7 to 12 pounds coming in on average.  There has been a few king salmon over 20 pounds brought in this week but still, the average size of most salmon this season has been very small under 15 pounds.  Here too, grifting roe/puffball combos or back trolled sardine wrapped kwilfish style plugs are working best.  Salmon fishing on the Sacramento River should continue to build through September and peak in mid October.

Sacramento River trout fishing.

The rainbow trout bite has been fair this week and the red hot October trout bite is just around the corner.  With the returning Fall run king salmon, many trout will take advantage of the salmon spawn making for incredible rout fishing in October.  Best bets are drifting small hand tied glo bugs that match the salmon spawn from Redding downriver through Red Bluff, Ca.  Anglers can expect to pick up the occasional steelhead while trout fishing this section of Sacramento River.
