Salmon fishing guides Sacramento River.

Some of the very best Sacramento River salmon fishing is just around the corner as we enter August.   The Sacramento River is now open above and below the Red Bluff Diversion Dam for all anglers looking for the Central Valley prize, The Sacramento River king salmon!.  The August 1st salmon fishing opener was not any better than the July 16th opener, dead slow with just a dozen king salmon pulled out of the hole below the hatchery entrance,  There were many boats and anglers with only a few being lucky enough to hook up with salmon fishing guides on the Sacramento River Monday morning,

The salmon fishing has become very competitive with there being no salmon being caught on either the Sacramento or Feather Rivers early this season.  Sacramento River salmon fishing guide Dave Jacobs has been salmon fishing on another Northern California river with great success in July and early August.  The Trinity River just a short drive West of Redding has been producing beautiful, fresh king salmon daily for Dave and his anglers seven days a week.  There has been light fishing pressure and the dropping flows and cold water has provided tremendous salmon fishing action.  Sardine wrapped plugs were the hot ticket as the Trinity began to drop with king salmon 10 to 17 pounds slamming these lures many times throughout the mornings.  As the water continued to drop,  the salmon roe bite really began to take over especially later in the mornings and early afternoons as the king salmon moved upriver and congregated in the deeper holes.  Fresh sardine wrapped plugs and back bounced roe/puffball combos provided great action and a beautiful river float for four to eight king salmon a day for two and three anglers. Conditions couldn’t have been any more perfect for excellent king salmon fishing in late July.

We are now back on the Sacramento River working hard everyday for the early arriving Fall run salmon.  Here too we are back bouncing sardine wrapped plugs for beautiful kings 12 to 20 pounds with the best salmon fishing guides on the Sacramento River.  We have not had many opportunities throughout the day but when given the chance, we have been able to connect and land some great hard fighting salmon.
